If you thought Potbelly sandwich shops would fly only in Lincoln Park and the suburbs, think again; the new store in Hyde Park (5428 S. Lake Park Ave., 773-493-0129)–or is it Kenwood?–was jammed today between 1:30 and 2 p.m., and people just kept on coming in, even as I was leaving.

The new Potbelly is close to the new Checkerboard Lounge. It’s a Hyde Park/Kenwood rennaissance, for crying out loud.

  • I lived in Hyde Park for four years, moving out just as the Borders was completed. Now when I go back (Borders! Potbelly’s!) it’s hard not to notice a new feel.

  • What’s even more sad is people think Potbelly’s is actually decent food. One day someone will explain to me why Chicago doesn’t have any decent delis where you can get a fresh sandwich on the go.
