If you thought Potbelly sandwich shops would fly only in Lincoln Park and the suburbs, think again; the new store in Hyde Park (5428 S. Lake Park Ave., 773-493-0129)–or is it Kenwood?–was jammed today between 1:30 and 2 p.m., and people just kept on coming in, even as I was leaving.
The new Potbelly is close to the new Checkerboard Lounge. It’s a Hyde Park/Kenwood rennaissance, for crying out loud.

I lived in Hyde Park for four years, moving out just as the Borders was completed. Now when I go back (Borders! Potbelly’s!) it’s hard not to notice a new feel.
What’s even more sad is people think Potbelly’s is actually decent food. One day someone will explain to me why Chicago doesn’t have any decent delis where you can get a fresh sandwich on the go.
