The shady side of Beverly

For anyone who happened to sojourn south (or north or east or west) yesterday for the South Side Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the Beverly neighborhood may have noticed a preponderance of drinking establishments on the west side of Western Avenue.

Indeed, o revelers, the east side of Western Avenue, the street that hosts the parade, is dry. No liquor licenses. And because of the way the sun revolves around the earth (or is it the other way around?), as the parade marches on, the western half of Western falls into shadow as the eastern side remains bathed in sunlight.

Thus, locals call the east side of Western “the sunny side.” The west side is known as “the shady side,” not neccessarily because of the shenanigans going on in the bars, but not neccessarily not because of the shenanigans, either.
