The Streeter is a 50-story, 481-unit apartment tower at 345 E Ohio St in Streeterville. It was completed in 2007.
Golub & Company was the developer and Solomon Cordwell Buenz the architecture firm.
The apartments
The Streeter offers 14 different floor plans of studio, convertible, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments.
Floor plans are online as well as a near real-time availability check.
Typical unit finishes include hardwood-like floors in living areas, tiled kitchens and baths and carpeted bedrooms. Kitchens have granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, including a gas range, built-in microwave and dishwasher. There are in-unit washers and dryers, and a separate laundry room in the building.
Closet space compares favorably with many of the newer apartment buildings.
Three-bedroom plans have recessed balconies, as do some of the 1-bedroom and most of the 2-bedroom units. The largest 1-bedroom plan has a bath-and-a-half and a separate den area.
Furnished short-term rentals in the building are available through Suite Home Chicago, VIP Corporate Housing and Village Green’s V-Suites.
Views. The density that makes The Streeter’s location attractive also limits its views. The building is sited on an east / west axis, and the best views will be from high-floor north- and south-facing units.
Amenities, services, policies
The Streeter is a full-amenity building.
There’s a large, south-facing deck with an outdoor pool adjacent to an indoor resistance pool and whirlpool. One of the access paths to the pool has seating areas and grills leading to a colorfully landscaped seating area with a see-through fireplace.
The Streeter’s large, U-shaped fitness area accommodates a wide variety of equipment and has a basketball court / yoga area at its center.
Residents can grab a book or host a meeting in the library on the amenities level and head outdoors to an adjacent landscaped “quiet area.”
There’s a fully-equipped business / tech center with coffee, a kitchen area, DVD rentals and individual computer carrels.
The Streeter’s amenities level also has vending machines and a sprawling resident lounge / party area with large screen TVs, a full kitchen, arcade games and foosball and pool tables.
Residents and guests have a sense of arrival when they enter the interior lobby area, where they can grab a cup of coffee or a magazine and scan fliers announcing visiting food vendors and upcoming social events in the building.
The Streeter has on-site leasing, management and maintenance staff and 24/7 door staff.
Cats and dogs are OK, subject to limits.
The location
The Streeter is in the recently-developed southern part of Streeterville, three blocks north of the Chicago River, midway between Michigan Avenue and Navy Pier.
Shopping. Treasure Island, which bills itself as “America’s most European supermarket,” is a few blocks northeast.
There is a new Bockwinkel’s across the street from the building.
Target recently opened in October 2015 a block southeast of the building.
A Whole foods is located a block east of the building.
A Walgreen’s Pharmacy is a block south of The Streeter.
Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile shops begin 2 blocks west of the building.
Dining, nightlife, entertainment.
There are literally 100s of dining and nightlife options within blocks of The Streeter, including alfresco cafés fronting the building’s drive-in court area.
Many of the local restaurants cater heavily to tourists and office workers, but you won’t have any trouble finding a go-back-to neighborhood favorite.
Yolk, next door to The Streeter, is a popular breakfast spot that draws a crowd for Sunday brunch.
If you’re a bowling or movie buff, hit the lanes at Lucky Strike then head downstairs to catch a movie at AMC River East, a block south of The Streeter.
Parks, recreation. The Streeter has good park access. The building is two blocks from Navy Pier, Jane Addams Memorial Park, Ohio Street Beach and the Lakefront Trail. River Esplanade Park, home to Centennial Fountain, is a few blocks south of the building.
Lake Shore Park, which has a running track, softball fields, tennis courts, a playground and a small field house, is a half-mile north. The Museum of Contemporary Art is at the west end of the park and just west of the museum is the delightful, tree-shrouded Seneca Playlot Park.
Transportation. Access to CTA and Metra train lines is inconvenient from The Streeter.
CTA bus service, via multiple routes, is excellent along Michigan Ave, Illinois St (one-way East-bound) and Grand Ave (one-way West-bound). Many residents of The Streeter are likely to opt for cabs as their preferred mode of public transit, and cabs are always plentiful in the area.
Zipcar and Enterprise CarShare locations are on-site.
The Streeter has easy access to and from Lake Shore Drive. Reaching I-90/94 and the rest of the city’s expressway grid can often be time-consuming. Expect near-gridlock conditions when there’s a major event in the neighborhood.
