Jeff Heilbrunn wrote the book on block clubs. Literally. These neighborhood organizations have existed for decades, but Jeff, with the help of Builders Center of Chicago and South Shore community members like Pastor Kennie Delt, actually took the time to put together a manual (PDF) on how to put a club together.
As we left “Terror Town” and started making our way through the streets west of Yates Boulevard, Jeff pointed out some of the places where block clubs thrive. Many happen to be on blocks lined with classic bungalows, which you can see in the video above.
