Even with the economic hurdles South Shore will have to clear in the coming years, there’s still a lot to envy about the neighborhood, including its location and its stock of lakeside homes, says Jeff Heilbrunn, a marketing adviser for Builders Center of Chicago. After leaving the Cultural Center, Jeff and I headed southeast down Coles Avenue, which runs roughly parallel to the lakefront, and passed one of Builders Center’s latest conversions.
We eventually made our way to 79th Street, where we found the north end of the USX steel-mill site and the entrance to Rainbow Beach, one of Jeff’s favorite locations in all of South Shore. From there, you can get a full view of downtown Chicago, from the Willis Tower all the way out to the end of Navy Pier.
