Touring South Shore with Jeff Heilbrunn, Part 5: Bungalows and block clubs

Many of the streets west of Yates Boulevard in South Shore are lined with single-family homes, including many blocks’ worth of classic Chicago bungalows. Some of these streets have organized block clubs, which work to keep crime out of the neighborhood and to promote the upkeep of the streetscape. In this video, Jeff Heilbrunn talks about his work with Pastor Kennie Delt of Higher Love Ministries to promote block clubs, which included the creation of an actual block club manual distributed by churches, government offices, and the Builders Center of Chicago.
