Touring South Shore with Jeff Heilbrunn, Part 6: High schools and heavyweights

The final video from Joe Askins’ tour of Chicago’s South Shore community with Jeff Heilbrunn takes the duo past three incarnations of South Shore High School — the original, a replacement building from the 1960s, and a new building going up today. They eventually make their way to Stony Island Avenue and pass Mosque Maryam, national center for the Nation of Islam, and back around to one of South Shore’s side streets, where Heilbrunn’s wife grew up. As a child, Heilbrunn’s wife lived across the street from Nation of Islam leaders and met the block’s most famous guest: Muhammad Ali.
