From Chicago Breaking News:

The CTA will go out for bids next week to sell naming rights to its rail lines and stations, bus routes and other assets, CTA president Richard Rodriguez announced Wednesday.

Sounds like a perfect thread to end the day — take it away, jokers.

  • This will be a disaster…. and a civic embarrassment for decades if it ever comes to fruition.

Has no one at the CTA thought of the ramifications of this move? Costs of repeatedly changing signage every time a naming right swaps hands? How about the nightmare of having people relearn the system every few months? How do you think tourists will feel about riding the historic El through Dunkin Loop before taking the McDonalds line north to Trojan Station? Nevermind that a year later the names will have changed again.

    ….retards, all of them.

  • HJ,

When you sell naming rights, you generally don’t sell them for less then it would costs to put the signs up. Not to mention that it is usually the responsibility of the buyer in a situation like this to have their own signs printed, posted and maintained. I’m sure they will have some quality control and we won’t have the “Hustler” stop or something less glamorous.

Plus, for the stations, for example, it will still be the Roosevelt stop… It might just be the Walgreen’s Roosevelt or the Target Roosevelt. If you can’t figure that out, that maybe you shouldn’t be riding the train.
