Turkey Day with a Jewish flair every day in the Loop

You will not find it on the menu–or at least I didn’t–but if you ask your server (as I did the other day) to have the kitchen whip up a turkey reuben for you at Ada’s Famous Deli & Restaurant (14 S. Wabash Ave., 312-214-4282), you will find your request being filled enthusiastically.

It is not the best turkey reuben in town–The Bagel up on Broadway (with a sister location at Old Orchard in Skokie) holds that title–but Ada’s turkey reuben is tasty enough that I would order it again. It is served open face with sauerkraut, thousand Island and Swiss cheese spilling over two slices of rye. With fries and an iced tea (classic Gentile order), your tab comes to $14.05. I was so full I did not even slow down to look at the sweets near the front door on my way out.
The place is clean as a whistle, and the servers are pros. Of course the corned beef and pastrami are probably winners, too, but how could we talk anything but turkey at a time like this?
