Avondale's uncommon amenities

The Avondale community area was once home to the one-of-a-kind Olson Park and Waterfall, one of the city’s “Seven Lost Wonders,” according to the Tribune. The park is gone — paved over into a parking lot, no less — but today’s Avondale residents still have enough interesting amenities in their neighborhood to fill their free time with fun. Here are just a few:

Chicago River Canoe and Kayak Launch (3400 N Rockwell St): Located just across the Chicago River between Belmont Avenue and Addison Street, in a space yet to be named in someone’s honor: Park 457. Profiled on NotForTourists.com.

Elastic Arts Foundation (2830 N Milwaukee Ave): A non-profit arts organization, producing arts events above a Chinese restaurant. Read reviews on Yelp.

Hot Doug’s (3324 N California Ave): Gourmet hot dogs so good people excuse waiting in excess of 90 minutes. Read reviews on Yelp.

Joong Boo Market (3333 N Kimball Ave):  A Korean grocery store with inexpensive produce, Asian imports and a food counter that serves cooked meals. Read reviews on Yelp.

Kuma’s Corner (2900 W Belmont Ave): Gourmet burgers so good people excuse waiting in excess of 90 minutes. Read reviews on Yelp.

Print and Parcel (3058 W Belmont Ave): An alternative to the typical print and  packaging stores – here, you can also enjoy a cup of coffee. Read reviews on Yelp.
