ChiKat, our writer in Woodlawn, has a bone to pick with the University of Chicago. In her latest post, ChiKat laments that the university, which has ostensibly made every effort to reach out to Woodlawn as its campus pushes south, keeps the snowy sidewalks in Hyde Park spic-and-span but seems to stop plowing at 60th Street. “If they really want to show us that they care, how about they plow their $%^# sidewalks in Woodlawn?!,” she writes.
ChiKat also calls another Woodlawn issue to our attention:
In Woodlawn’s case, the steady increase in middle-income blacks has done more to change the neighborhood than the 3% of white people who have bought condos here.
Check out her entire post and let us know if you’d like to jump in on a journal of your own.

Why the hell does U of C have to plow the sidewalks in Woodlawn? What a stupid thing to complain about. She needs to shut up
up,
Why does it plow the streets of Hyde Park, for that matter?
My reading of it is that she said U of C plows the sidewalks in front of their properties in Hyde Park and neglects to do the same in front of U of C properties in Woodlawn.
Here is an ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH.
Thanks, ip. We needed that.
Sometimes some of us, including me, stay up to late.
Joe,
if that is the worst mistake you make on any given day then that is a good day. WE all misspeak or misstype sometimes. Even Saint Barack Obama.
Don’t even let me get started on “da mare”.
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH
Irish Pirate, we know where you stand on HELLen. The question is who will you be supporting for Mayor – Dot or Dock?
Woodlawnchuck,
that is an existential question. Doc Walls is a bad joke. Dorothy “Call me ‘The Honorable'” Brown is less of a joke, but somehow unappealing to me. With her enormous ego she strikes me as a female version of Jesse Jackson JR. or Luis Guitterez. One thing I do respect though is she did attain her office on her own. Not because of her name.
“Da Mare” has done much good and much bad. The first doesn’t necessarily outweigh the second.
Daley is a gifted politician or at least has gifted advisors. He is also lucky that the quality of his opposition is always poor…..both in skill and money.
If Obama was running for “da mare” Daley would be in trouble, but he has his sight set on a lesser office.
Now to answer your question which I have been avoiding…………I DUNNO.
I may skip that race as an ineffectual protest.
I can’t vote for anyone who insists she be addressed as “the honorable”. It offends my sense of humor……..which is offensive in itself. So Brown is out.
I could vote for “Doc” Walls because it might bring a little joy to his seemingly joyless life.
I could vote for Daley based on the “good” and ignore the bad.
I might skip the race.
I was going to walk over to the “early voting” station at Truman College this morning. I shoveled snow instead.
Right now I seem to be shoveling bullpoop.
To non answer your question………….I really don’t know.
I’m leaning toward “Doc” because of his need for affirmation and my belief that voting is important.
ARRRRRRRRRRGH
I drove up King Drive yesterday from Chicago State, if anything, the intersection with 63rd Street looks WORSE than it did in the 80s. I’ll have to go up Cottage next time to see if that’s any better than it used to be.
