Wabash Avenue – romantic or blighted?

Judging from responses to our earlier post, Wabash Avenue has its share of admirers, who think the old el track metalwork has a certain urban romance to it.

But others around town aren’t fans of the street and doubt that the city’s beautification plan will even help the historic thoroughfare.

This just in from Gail Lissner, of housing analyst Appraisal Research Counselors: “How do you beautify Wabash? It sounds like an oxymoron. Does the plan include ear muffs so we don’t hear the el?”

Lissner does, however, end on a diplomatic note. “If you are looking for the ultimate urban experience, Wabash is the street.”
