Wabash Avenue to get a Botox shot

Ready for a makeoverWabash Avenue, the ugly stepsister of Michigan Avenue and State Street, is headed for the spa.

In spring, the metalwork of the overhanging el stations in the Loop section of Wabash is getting a lick of burgundy paint. It’s the same color that adorns all the moveable bridges.

The city conducted a survey which found that Chicagoans thought the street was, frankly, a little scary. The idea is to attract high-end retailers to the area. After all, the owners of all the highrise condos that are moving into the neighborhood, such as The Heritage at Millennium Park, are going to need somewhere to shop.

The Department of Transportation also plans to install planter boxes, new street lights and repair the sidewalks.
