Wacker Gateway Park under construction below 235 Van Buren

Wacker Gateway Park rendering, Chicago, IL

Getting tired of the Congress Parkway bridge construction at Wacker Drive? You wouldn’t be the only one. According to IDOT’s bridge website, the 2-year project is still on schedule to complete in the Fall of 2011.

And as that project winds down, work should commence on the three-acre Wacker Gateway Park, built over the Wacker Drive interchange and directly south of 235 Van Buren, the new loop residential high-rise at Van Buren and Franklin.

This park will no doubt be a welcome addition for the residents of 235. Details are hard to come by, but on this landscape rendering (PDF), obtained from 235’s website, the park is to include multi-level landscaping, broad lawn areas, prairie grass meadows and a dog-friendly area.
