We’re not entirely certain when the Police and Fire academies might share a campus, but it seems that the men in blue will likely leave their cramped home at some point, possibly for another in the West Loop. Some have raised the possibility of a new location near the city’s 911 Center, which is on the 1400 block of West Madison.
That would probably make West Loop residents happy. We’ve never seen any evidence that having a police academy in your neighborhood increases safety, but back when the neighborhood was still pretty edgy, the presence of this institution was often cited by residents as a plus. They seem less fond of the academy’s boxy design.
