Chicago rent barometer: Andersonville for $800

AndersonvilleAndersonville has become the hottest pocket in Edgewater, a trend that began with the pioneering work of gay residents and has continued with an explosion of chic restaurants, boutiques and bars. Rents have risen accordingly, so we decided to see what you can still get in the area for around $800.

-For $795, you can rent this one-bedroom, one-bathroom, ground-floor apartment at Hood and Lakewood in Edgewater Glen. The unit features hardwood floors, new maple cabinets and a dishwasher. Tenants don’t need to brave the outdoors to access the building’s laundry and storage facilities. Parking is also available, though no price is specified.

-Also for $795, you can lease this “all-inclusive” one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment at Bryn Mawr and Lakewood Avenues. This top-floor walk-up has wall-to-wall carpeting and “lots of storage,” including built-in drawers and cubbies. Other features include ceiling fans, a French balcony, on-site laundry, a front-door callbox and a bike storage room. It’s also worth noting that all utilities are included in the rent. However, parking isn’t mentioned.

-For $800, you can live in this rehabbed studio on the 5200 block of North Ashland Avenue. The unit has an open floor plan with 750 square feet of living space. It features hardwood floors throughout, forced-air heat, a Jacuzzi, and new ceramic tile and appliances in the kitchen. The rent includes a parking space, but there is no mention of on-site laundry.
