One of the best ways to learn about a home you’re interested in buying is talking to the neighbors. Rob bought at the new Ralph Johnson-designed high-rise at 235 Van Buren late last year. He looked at hundreds of places online and dozens in person before deciding on 235.

Rob’s decision was primarily motivated by the combination of location and price. Its location is close to downtown activity and affords easy access to the ballparks and Chicago’s lakefront. It’s also a short hop onto the expressway for Rob’s commute to work in the northwest suburbs.

In this video, he expands on these thoughts, explains what made 235 appealing during a down market, and offers some advice for buyers who are considering a home in the high-rise.

  • My clients rented here: 2BR/2BA unobstructed westerly view with balcony in the 20’s. Get this: $1,700 / month included deeded parking space. Best value in Chicago. Another MLS rental.

  • halsted: I have a 4000sq ft 5 bdrm single family home with rooftop and garage decks, plus 2 balconies and 2 car garage for about double your $1700/mo. Just off Damen and Chicago. I’d say I have a better value.

  • Hell, I have 20 acres in Iowa and a shack I’d be willing to rent for $3500. That 20 acres is an even better value . . . .

  • js, I’d agree thats a nice value.

OK, for the location as my client was a trader, it was a great deal.
