A Cook County Board committee has approved a measure that would establish automatic e-mail notification for anyone who wants it if a sex offender moves within a one-mile radius, according to a story in today’s Chicago Sun-Times. Web sites that already map the locations of sex offenders have become popular, but as we have noted previously, easy access to this info. can have unintended consequences for property values and market times. At Manhattan-based Matrix, one reader lamented the “financial devestation” he experienced trying to sell his home with a convicted sex offender living next door.
