Wooden Alley

Forget March Madness. We’re not talking coach John here. And no, we didn’t go dyslexic on the name of a has-been clarinetist either.

The Gold Coast’s little-known Wooden Alley (PDF file) was born in 1909, a scant year before the coach, and it runs between Astor and State at about 1535 north.

Wooden alley, as you’ve probably guessed, is paved in 4-inch thick blocks of wood.

It’s one of only two wooden alleys left in the city. Where’s the other one?
