“McMansion” is a term coined in the ’80s and usually associated with sprawling suburban mansions squeezed into neighborhoods full of quaint older homes. But on Chicago’s side streets, tall, imposing new homes are springing up everywhere and dwarfing their smaller neighbors. This vintage home, on the 1500 block of W George St, now looks like the late-bloomer in a high school locker room getting shaken down by a football player. Since when did keeping up with the Jones’s mean having a $1.5 million McMansion?
