Yet another River North apartment tower, at Chicago and LaSalle

Just one of the things that make YoChicago unique among local real estate websites is our image library. Other sites have few original photos to display. Within seconds I can tap into our network and access more than 300,000 photos shot by me and our staff freelancers over the years.

Within minutes after seeing that user name ardecila had posted a rendering at SkyscraperPage of a new apartment tower proposed for the northeast corner of Chicago and LaSalle I was able to find three distinct views of the site. The new 33-story Smithfield Properties tower would include ground-floor retail space and 290 apartment units. We’ve added this development to our list of new downtown apartment projects.

We recently linked to a Crain’s report of five new apartment towers, not including this one, proposed for River North, and two that are slated for completion this year.

The building immediately to the north of the vacant lot, which is apparently included in the Smithfield proposal, was the site of Marvin Glass and Associates, a prolific and secretive toy design shop where, in 1976, an employee killed three of his co-workers, wounded several others, and then committed suicide.
