Last month Curbed reported that the landmark Abbott House at 4605 N Hermitage Ave in Uptown had closed for $1.6 million. We recently picked up a bit of historical flavor regarding old home.
Unlike most of its neighbors, the Abbott Home sits behind a fence. You might think it was built to keep strangers off the lawn or the home’s sprawling front porch. After all, this is a 120-year-old Queen Anne we’re talking about. But we hear it was less about keeping people out than keeping someone in, namely an aged lodger with a little wanderlust left in his legs and a penchant for snatching up tips from the tabletops of neighborhood establishments. Believe it…or not.
