Winnetka is home to “the educated affluent,” says Joe Zekas, a place with a largely unwarranted reputation when it comes to social snobbery and viewed by most as “a friendly, tolerant and welcoming community,” where people often identify themselves by the elementary school district in which they live and where they “remain almost feverishly active” at community meetings and in civic organizations.
