You can't take the farm out of the city

There’s a sad irony in seeing farmers whose land is increasingly being bought up and replaced with Walgreen’s, Sprint stores, Starbucks and housing subdivisions peddle their fresh fruits and vegetables in the concrete jungle, but we’ll always pass up Jewel in favor of Chicago’s farmers markets. You can find weekly markets in just about any neighborhood, usually starting early in June and ending in October. There’s an overview of Chicago’s official farmers markets at the Mayor’s Office of Special Events web page.

Two downtown markets are already in full swing, at Daley Plaza on Thursdays and Federal Plaza on Tuesdays from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.
