We’ve had so much fun here at Yo today discussing streetscape and density issues that we thought we’d share another little architectural juxtaposition (click image for bigger picture). This pairing of an old bungalow with Attila Demeter’s new mid-rise Aspen 6 on Damen Avenue in Bucktown actually looks relatively harmonious.
Perhaps it’s the blending of the pale blue of the bungalow with the glass and steel of its new neighbor, or the fact that the new mid-rise is set back and the older home isn’t sandwiched in by mid-rises on both sides (you can’t see it here, but there is another bungalow on the other side of this one), or perhaps it’s the fact that Demeter does density well, keeping his buildings in peaceful coexistence with their surroundings.
