Could Washington Park benefit from an Olympic-sized investment?

Anyone thinking about buying an investment condo in the Washington Park neighborhood? Mayor Daley has just announced that he wants the eponymous park to be the site of the Olympic Stadium if Chicago is successful in its bid for the 2016 Olympic Games. Even if the Windy City doesn’t get the nod, the city presumably would have pumped money into the park as part of its bid, assuming that Daley remains Da Mayor next term. Ok, there are a lot of “ifs” in that equation, we know. Still not convinced? Check out our recent write-up of Washington Park as an up-and-coming “hot” neighborhood. And yes, Yo’s truly does think there’s a solid link between Olympic investment and gentrification – several suburbs in the vicinity of the Olympic Stadium in Sydney experienced booms following the 2000 Games. That said, critics of the proposal say building a large stadium would destroy Washington Park, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. What say you?
