Rental studios for around $1,300 at new South Loop apartment building

sloopapartmentbing copy.jpgHigh-rise buildings and the South Loop neighborhood go together like, oh I don’t know, Audrey Hepburn and AC/DC. You know what I mean? It seems like such an improbable fit at first, but then the idea grows on you.

The latest project we’re talking about is a 24-story apartment building slated for 900 S Clark St. The nameless development, by AMLI Residential, will be part of the mega-development that goes by the working title of LaSalle Park down at the Plan Department. That area, at Roosevelt Road and Clark Street, near Wells Street, also includes Centrum Properties’ Roosevelt Collection.

The rental tower, designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, is constructed from glass, aluminum, concrete and stucco. The 440 rental units range from studios to three-bedroom units, and come in a mix of “soft loft” and “traditional” styles, we hear. The rents are not finalized, but are expected to range from about $1,300 for the studios (does anyone else think that’s a lot of money for a shoebox?) to $2,400 for the three-bedroom units. Yo’s truly was about to say it’d be cheaper to buy a condo, but the South Loop is getting pretty pricey. Whaddya think?
In its press release, AMLI says that the company is targeting young professionals, graduate students and downtown workers. Amenities include a fitness center, an Internet cafe, a rooftop party room a “four seasons room,” and an outdoor roof-deck. The company plans to break ground in December.
