Now that River North is going all “Gold Coast South” perhaps it’s only a matter of time before these old-school motels and hotels give way to residential high-rise developments, swank hotel condo towers or more modern high-rise hotels. We’ve said goodbye to a few old motels recently, such as the motels along Lincoln Avenue and the Lakeside Motel in Edgewater – although the difference there is that those motels were independently owned, and the River North motels are mostly chains, except the Ohio House Motel. Yo’s truly spent yesterday afternoon wandering around RiNo, delighting in the seventies-style diner (Cafe Luna) that serves a $4.95 hot breakfast with all the fixins at the Howard Johnson on LaSalle Street.
