Now here’s a development that puts the “Edge” in Edgewater. Sufa & Shemesh’s Substation North Lofts is a conversion of a ComEd power station at 1128 W Ardmore Ave. The electricity giant left behind some old electric panels which the developer decided to mount in artful displays along the walls of the development’s common areas. Metal ladders still hang from the walls in some units, and large steel trusses act as ceiling beams. The development is a hit with male buyers in particular. “You walk in and you either love it and have to have it or you don’t like it,” sales agent Natalie Tarrence says.
