A drive through Old Bridgeport

Eleanor, Hillock, Lock, Short, Senour. These are streets whose names you’ve likely never heard and almost certainly never traversed.

They’re found in Old Bridgeport, the gritty, formerly industrial area bounded by the Dan Ryan and Stevenson Expressways, Archer Ave and the Chicago River – and boast a surprising volume of newly-built homes and an unsurprising number of Bridgeport loyalists.

Joe Askins and Joe Zekas of YoChicago took a new construction tour of Bridgeport yesterday with two great tour guides. Dave Samber, a friend of more than 30 years, is the proprietor of Bridgeport’s Polo Café & Catering and a nearly 25-year resident of Bridgeport. Dave’s Shark Veracruz recently won a Best of Taste of Chicago award. Our second guide, Donna Murray of Gordon Realty, was born and raised in Bridgeport and never left.

Dave and Donna show us around Old Bridgeport in this third part of our tour. The first and second parts can be found on our Bridgeport channel at YouTube.
