Another classic Chicago movie theater closing

Coinciding with the news today that yet another classic Chicago movie theater is closing–the Esquire on Oak Street in the Gold Coast–Chicago magazine’s latest issue (October) features a one-page photo/timeline story on Victory Gardens theater company, including its move into the legendary Biograph. The Esquire will be razed and replaced by a new-construction retail building full of high-end shops.

Also in Chicago magazine, check out “Vital Signs,” a black and white-photo essay on old school Chicago marquees.

And while you’re at it, check out “Treasure Hunter,” a profile of Stuart Grannen, the guy who runs Architectural Artifacts.

And while you’re at that, check out a short piece called “Easy Being Green” featuring four eco-friendly building projects–the Hyatt Regency Chicago Riverfront Expansion and Exhibition Space, Pacific Garden Mission, Ford Calumet Environmental Center, and Greenworks Headquarters and Eco-Industrial Park–and an exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Then, go read something else.
