Arcadia Green brings green technology to Evanston

Green is the new black at Arcadia Green, an eight-unit Evanston condo development that uses the latest in “green” technology to supply 92 percent of the heating, cooling and domestic hot water in the building, according to C.L. Geiger, broker and owner of Your Residential Resource, which is marketing the project.

“This is the way development, in our opinion, should be,” said Geiger. “The developer, Green Bay Group LLC, is very passionate about the environment and responsibility.”

The four-story brick-and-limestone building, designed by FWC Architects, will use a combination of geothermal and solar technology that has zero greenhouse impact or carbon emissions, said Geiger. Standards for Energy Star, a government-backed program that promotes environmental protection through energy efficiency, will be applied to all mechanical systems and appliances, and Green Bay wants to adhere to the stringent standards of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. The building will also recycle storm water for landscape watering and have a green roof, which Geiger said will yield high indoor air quality.

Sales at Arcadia Green began in early October, and Geiger expects to attract a mix of young families and Evanston locals looking to downsize. The savings on energy costs, she admits, will likely prove most attractive to buyers.

“Prices will always go up for energy,” she said. “Here, that’s an up-front cost that’s taken care of in the price of the condo.”

Interior finishes include oak hardwood floors throughout, 42-inch cherry cabinets, granite countertops, stainless appliances, marble showers, whirlpool tubs and radiant-heated bathrooms. Buyers can also upgrade to Viking and Wolf appliances.

Condos have two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and, during pre-construction, Geiger said buyers have the option of creating an enclosed study from the living space. Prices range from the $490s to the $790s with one deeded underground parking space included in the price. At press time, construction had begun, and Geiger anticipated a late March delivery. A sales center is located north of the development at 545 Green Bay Rd. in Wilmette.
