Architect FitzGerald wins IMPACT award, touts CHA redevelopment model

Pat FitzGerald, of FitzGerald Associates Architects, has snagged the IMPACT award from the Lincoln Park Builders of Chicago, given each year to an influential player in the city’s real estate market. Lincoln Park Builders is an honorary society that aims to “provide social camaraderie and a venue to discuss and learn about industry issues, trends and opportunities,” according to its Web site.

FitzGerald and his firm are behind more than 30,000 housing units representing a wide range of projects, from luxury high-rises to swanky loft conversions to redevelopments of Chicago Housing Authority properties bolstered by public funds.

In his acceptance speech, at the Lincoln Park Builders’ 2007 Real Estate Forum at Germania Place on Nov 15, he argued in favor of “the kind of public / private partnerships that are now replacing some of Chicago’s most blighted housing on CHA land,” saying that they “may provide a viable model” for the future of Chicago’s affordable housing.

In our video interview with FitzGerald (see above), he listed his CHA projects among his proudest accomplishments.
