Are these homes Unkenilworthy?

We mentioned in a previous post that Kenilworth is on the National Trust for Historic Preservation‘s list of most endangered places.

It’s curious that Kenilworth made the list, rather than Winnetka or Glencoe, both of which have seen a much higher percentage of their housing stock torn down than Kenilworth, according to a recent study (PDF file).

The number and percentage of teardowns from 1996 to 2003:

Winnetka — 373, 9.40%
Glencoe — 230, 7.93%
Kenilworth — 29, 3.52%
Wilmette — 259, 3.08%

Let’s set aside any claims about the special history of Kenilworth and take a look at what’s replacing the torn-down dwellings.

Are any of these homes truly out of character with Kenilworth? Are they Unkenilworthy?
