BlockShopper gives the skinny on real estate's rich and obscure

Curious to find out who can afford to buy all these expensive starter castles and condos? Well so were the folks over at BlockShopper.com, a Web site that started up in the spring and was featured in the Tribune. BlockShopper gives the skinny on the obesity surgeon who bought the $582,000 townhome (funny, we would’ve thought he could afford something more, given that he specializes in what must be a fairly lucrative medical field).

Then there’s the Sidley Austin partner and her builder husband who sold their home for $2.268 million. There seems to be a high concentration of doctors, lawyers and investment bankers in neighborhoods such as Lincoln Park and Lake View, which is handy to know. Imagine the block parties. You could get some handy stock market tips, make your fortune, blow it on a tummy tuck and some augmentive surgery, then sue the surgeon for malpractice – all at the same party.
