Chicago isn’t the first city that springs to mind when you think of gentleman farmers, but we were struck over this blistering weekend by a scattering of free newspaper boxes for a shopper called “Homes and Farms” in and around the Loop. Some of the listings in the Compton, IL-based book are for typical new-construction homes in distant suburbs, but others are for actual farms in towns as far as Belvedere, Dixon and Morrison, as well as in Iowa and Wisconsin.
