Chicago real estate Web sites revisited

A little clarification about yesterday’s post on real estate company Web sites:The National Association of Realtors study that we quoted found that 78 percent of real estate firms have Web sites. Of the firms that have Web sites, the median age of the sites is five years.

The language in the original post struck us as possibly confusing when we reread it. The fact that more than one-fifth of real estate companies still don’t have Web sites, however, is much more confusing. In comments, Devyn speculated that Realtors fear they’ll become irrelevant if they put too much information and power in the hands of consumers. An anonymous agent wrote that much of the industry prefers an “old-school” approach that emphasizes personal relationships a la Willie Loman over technology. And Joe reminded that agent what happened to Willie Loman.

No one pointed us toward another innovative local real estate Web site. Did we mention all of them (four)? Click on “Comments” below if there’s a local real estate Web site doing something interesting. If we agree, we’ll send you a free YoChicago T-shirt.
