Chicago rent barometer: high-rise rentals near the Loop

The Shoreham The Shoreham has two-bedroom two-bathroom apartments starting from $2,415 for 1,200 square feet. That rent will also make you a part of Lakeshore East, the development on the New East Side that features acres of green space and an enviable proximity to the water. The Shoreham may very well qualify as the most responsible rental, with the development’s RentBUY program allowing renters to put a portion of their rent toward the equity of a condominium in Lakeshore East.

Sky55At Sky55, 1255 S Michigan Ave, a two-bedroom two-bathroom apartment with this floor plan of 1,220 square feet starts at $2,600. We like the balcony but are less than thrilled about walking through the bathroom to get to the bedroom closet. The weirdest amenity offered at this South Loop high-rise, which is part of Central Station? Auto detailing, hands down.

180 N Jefferson A two-bedroom two-bathroom apartment at 180 N Jefferson St starts at $2,342. This West Loop development boasts the usual fitness center, business center, media room and library but we’re more intrigued by the promise of resident events, such as cocktail parties, theme parties and breakfasts. If you like the look of this 1,200-square-foot floor plan and can swing the rent, get ready to swing dance with your neighbor.
