Custom House a happy home

I am here to say with a full belly that Custom House lives up to the hype it has received. The meat-centric restaurant in the Printer’s Row neighborhood is every bit as good as everyone has said it is.

There was a collective curiosity before it opened about chef Shawn McClain’s ability to pull off a menu full of beef, considering how well he does fish and vegetables at his other restaurants, Spring, and Green Zebra. I was so looking forward to trying his short ribs last night that I ordered it not only as an entree but also as a side dish in the form of short rib ravioli.

For anyone who doesn’t eat red meat, there are plenty of other choices on the menu, including a delcious Atlantic bass with artichokes. On top of all the great food and wine, Custom House is about one of the most unstuffy restaurants you will find. Go there. And if you happen to drive, you’ll easily find an open meter spot.
