"Digital homes" gaining ground, L.A. Times reports

The brave new world of “home automation” is upon us, according to today’s L.A.Times (via the Trib). The business of digitally controlling almost every function in a home (lights, sound, heat, etc.) is expected to nearly double in sales over the next four years to nearly $6 billion, Kurt Scherf of tech analyst Parks Associates tells the Times. We’ve spotted several luxury homes in Chicago with some kind of digitally integrated system. What’s your take – is it worth the $3,000 to $15,000 the Times is saying it now costs to trick out a home with one of these systems?
