Evanston tower approved after split vote

Evanston towerIn the end, the decision to move forward with a 49-story mixed-use tower in downtown Evanston came down along gender lines: the men voted for it, and the women voted against it. Proponents cited the project’s benefits for an already-vital downtown; opponents called into question the city’s negotiations with the developers.

Evanston Roundtable has an interesting writeup on last night’s plan commission meeting and the project itself. A full up-down vote from the city’s nine aldermen is set for January.
