Folio Square owners still protesting Burnham Pointe condos in Printers Row

East side of 124 W Polk St

Although there are no angry mini-mobs to speak of these days, a group of Printers Row residents is continuing to protest Terrapin Properties’ Residences at Burnham Pointe high-rise condo development with this homemade sign in the windows of Folio Square, 124 W Polk St. An update on the Polk Street Canyon Web site contains a list of concerns about the development, including potential problems for sewers, traffic and pedestrian safety. The group is requesting Terrapin move the property 100 feet from the corner, widen the sidewalks around the building, add a second entrance to the parking garage and develop green space “to keep our neighborhood inviting.”

Printers Row, of course, is famous for its green space and the generous setbacks of its buildings, so, you know, it’s only fair that Terrapin follow suit. We’d like to suggest a Japanese garden and coi pond for this one, since the Transportation Building already has that massive herb garden, and The Manhattan is fronted with rose beds. The group’s Web site contains a digital petition and invites those who agree with the cause to call Yo’s favorite alderman and yours, Madeline Haithcock. Give her a call, and while you’re at it click on “Comments” below, to give Terrapin some botanical suggestions on how it might revise Burnham Pointe.
