Portage

Erica Gunderson, YoChicago’s johnny-on-the-spot in Irving Park, shows a little neighborhood pride, feistiness even, about what looks like the resurrection of the beautiful old Portage Park Theatre. No, it’s technically not her neighborhood, but it’s close enough. “Looks like the Portage Park Theatre is back from the dead – it reopened May 19 with a Charlie Chaplin film festival, and is now showing vintage cinema and independent films on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.”

According to the Cinema Treasures Web site, the Portage just reopened (spring 2006), but as you can see from the comment thread, there’s a lot of recent confusion about its status. The Web site and phone number listed for the Portage both seem to be defunct.
