High-rise condo deal at Columbus Hospital site salvaged

Looks like that high-rise condo project slated for the old Columbus Hospital site in Lincoln Park may still go ahead, according to a story today in Crain’s Chicago Business. The publication reports that American Invsco has sold the roughly three-acre site at 2520 N. Lakeview Ave., to a joint venture including Chicago-based MB Real Estate Services.

Despite the plum location, Invsco’s venture was dogged with problems, as Yo has previously reported. Invsco’s Nicholas Gouletas will reportedly stay on to market the project; the company planned to build luxury condos.

But before the folk at MB start thinking that all of their Christmases have come at once, here’s an interesting question that one real estate agent posed to Yo: Will multimillionaires from myriad religious and ethnic backgrounds want to stump up the cash to buy a home that overlooks a statue of the revered Mother Cabrini? A condition of acquiring the site was that Invsco retain a statue of the Catholic saint.
