JeffJack, 601 W Jackson, is a 15-story, 190-unit apartment tower with ground floor retail and parking in Chicago’s West Loop.

The building’s name reflects its location at the southwest corner of Jefferson and Jackson.

The developer of the project is a venture that includes Dan Moceri. The architecture firm is Thomas Roszak Architecture and the general contractor is Clark Construction.

The building presents a façade of glass and exposed concrete along Jefferson Street, a tribute to the industrial loft buildings that once dominated the area. The façade on Jackson is glass, punctuated by green accents.

JeffJack broke ground early in 2014 and began leasing in January of 2015.

The apartments

JeffJack has a mix of studio to 2-bedroom apartments. There are 45 studios, 106 one-bedrooms, 35 two-bedrooms and 4 penthouse apartments. Floor plans and near real-time rent and availability info can be accessed online.

Living areas have wood-look floors, high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and exposed concrete columns and ceilings.

All of the apartments have in-unit washer / dryers. The open plan kitchens are all-electric and mix white and espresso-toned cabinets. Kitchens have granite counter tops, tile backsplashes, under-mount sinks and stainless steel appliance packages.

A corner two-bedroom has a nook at the end of the entry hall for a home-office desk. The secondary bath has a stall shower, a sought-after feature.

The corner 2-bedrooms have the popular split-bedroom layout. A wing wall of windows in the master bedroom expands the space visually and showcases the urban environment as a great floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall mural.

Some of the units have balconies that span the full width of the unit.

Views. Views from almost all of the units are limited by neighboring buildings. That said, the varied architectural styles of the surrounding buildings serve up an interesting scene.

Amenities, services, policies

JeffJack has a solid set of amenities for a building its size.

The resident lounge spans a large area, and floor-to-ceiling windows make it seem even larger.

Furniture groupings facilitate small gatherings, bringing the space to a more intimate scale.

The views from the lounge bring you into close contact with the West Loop’s wonderfully varied architecture.

The fitness room has cardio and strength-training equipment. The colorful view from the cardio equipment will encourage usage.

There’s a separate yoga studio across from the fitness room.

JeffJack has a skylit indoor pool and whirlpool with floor-to-ceiling accordion windows that open the space to the outdoors. The adjacent sun deck has multiple grilling areas.

The sun deck overlooks a green roof and private dog run atop the parking garage.

JeffJack also has a media room and business center with a conference room adjacent to the resident lounge.

JeffJack is pet-friendly, smoke-free and has 24/7 door staff. A private dog run is on-site. Management and leasing staff are on-site and the leasing office is open daily.

285 on-site garage parking spaces are available and parking is also readily available at nearby surface lots.

Location

JeffJack’s West Loop location has strong appeal to residents who work or attend school in the Loop, or reverse-commute to the suburbs from nearby train stations or via the expressway grid.

Shopping. A Walmart Neighborhood Market is two short blocks north at Presidential Towers.

Mariano’s is a few blocks northwest, and Whole Foods recently opened on Halsted St a block north of Mariano’s. Jewel-Osco is a few blocks further north.

The year-round indoor Chicago French Market is at the Ogilvie Transportation Center. Target, Home Depot and other big-box stores along Roosevelt Road are a 5-minute drive.

Dining, nightlife. There’s a wide variety of dining and nightlife options in the immediate area, starting with Lou Mitchell’s a few steps to the east.

Greektown restaurants are two short blocks west, and Randolph Street’s restaurant row is within walking distance.

Parks. Park space is scarce in the West Loop. JeffJack’s location does not have convenient access to lakefront parks or parks with space for active recreation.

Heritage Green Park, a tranquil oasis and dog-walker’s destination, is two short blocks north of JeffJack. Old St Patrick’s Church, a Chicago landmark and home to what’s billed as the world’s largest block party, is across the street from the park.

Transportation. JeffJack has good overall access to public transportation and excellent access for reverse commuters to the suburbs.

JeffJack is a block from Union Station, four blocks from Metra’s Ogilvie Transportation Center and within walking distance of CTA Loop stations.

Expressway ramps two blocks west provide quick access to the Kennedy, Dan Ryan and Eisenhower Expressways. There’s frequent CTA bus service nearby providing connections in every direction. Cabs are always plentiful in the immediate area.

Zipcar locations are nearby, including one directly across the street on Jefferson. Several DIVVY bike stations are within a two-block walk.
