Kenilworth celebrates Memorial Day

The affluent North Shore Village of Kenilworth celebrated Memorial Day a week early last year, but in a solemn, traditional manner. Watch Village president T. Tolbert Chisum intone the name and address of each of Kenilworth’s war dead as scouts placed flags in a circle honoring them, all to the strains of the Battle Hymn of the Republic, and ending with a bugler blowing Taps.

A sizeable percentage of the population of this tiny village turns out for the event, which starts with a parade and ends with the introduction of the Grand Masters of the parade, the raising of the flag, the singing of the National Anthem, a memorial address, and the reading of the names of Kenilworth’s war dead (seen above).
