Lathrop Homes makes Landmarks Illinois' endangered list

Lathrop Homes, the public housing complex at Diversey and Damen, has made Landmarks Illinois’ list of 10 most endangered historic places for 2007, the Chicago Tribune reports today. In July, the Chicago Housing Authority announced plans to raze the complex to make way for 1,200 mixed-income apartments, the Trib notes.

The 30-building complex of two-story rowhouses and three- and four-story apartment buildings was constructed by the Public Works Administration between 1935 and 1938, with buildings designed by a team lead by Robert DeGolyer and landscape design by Jens Jensen, according to Landmarks Illinois.

Also on the most endangered list: Cedar Court in Park Ridge, Lakeshore Athletic Club at 850 N Lake Shore Dr in Chicago and the Sacred Heart Chapel at Barat College in Lake Forest.
