Mandarin Oriental joins battle to make its mark on the Chicago skyline

yo mandarin 150 width.jpgA diligent YoChicago reader has proposed Palladian Development’s Mandarin Oriental Tower be added to our skyline supremacy contest, and for good reason: the structure will stand 65 stories. The development is planned for 215 N Michigan Ave. According to a Mandarin press release, floors nine through 28 of the mixed-use tower will house the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, which will sell hotel condos starting at $500,000. Floors 32 through 45 will be The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, 1,600-square-foot or larger units that can be purchased furnished or unfurnished starting at $1.2 million. Mandarin Oriental Tower Condominiums, 150 units on floors 46 through 63, will have one to four bedrooms and 750 to 4,000 square feet. These units start at $600,000.

Finally, an 11,000-square-foot penthouse on the 64th floor is going for a cool $21 million. Take that, Donald. All residents will get to share in the hotel’s amenities, which include 40,000 square feet of “Asian-influenced” spa and fitness space.

In plans, the cool glass tower looks like it will be a welcome addition to the skyline, whether or not it will have as big an impact as some of the others we mentioned.
