Marina City condo association agreed not to seek landmark status

Marina City

Marina City resident and blogger Mike Doyle wondered why his condo association seemed less than enthusiastic about efforts to landmark Bertrand Goldberg’s famous corncob towers. That is, until he stumbled across a little-known agreement the association signed in 2003 pledging never to support landmark status for the iconic condo complex. The agreement wasn’t exactly secret – you can find it listed online at the Cook County Recorder of Deed’s Web site as document 0310503013 – but Doyle and many of his fellow residents were unaware of the deal between the condo association, Marina City Hotel Enterprises and HOB Marina City Partners (yes, the House of Blues types). Doyle, who blogs as Chicago Carless, seems sympathetic to the association’s dilemma, but also dismayed by the options taken from Marina City residents for now and maybe forever.
