Move over Virgil – city audio tour has hip-hop poet for guide

Personally, we’d rather tour Chicago barefoot in February than be led through the city to the vocal stylings of a hip-hop poet, but according to a story in today’s Chicago Tribune, a company called Audissey Guides now offers a Chicago tour led by poetry slam regular Kevin Coval. Download the tour to your MP3 player and you can hear Coval’s insightful architectural analysis (the Chicago Theatre is “crazy ornate”) and original urban insights (the el “represents the working man,” yo) delivered in the unmistakable argot of someone raised in the inner city – even though Coval grew up in Northbrook. While you’re at it, check out Audissey’s tour of downtown Beijing led by David Carradine.
